How to Change Your Default Calendar Meeting Length

Do you like to be able to schedule thirty minute meetings instead of hour-long ones in your calendar? In Google Apps, the default setting for meeting length is one hour. That means every time you go to schedule something it will automatically fill your calendar with a one hour slot. Fortunately, there’s a way to change that really easy to your liking.

All you need to do is go into your calendar settings menu. You can access this by clicking on the gear in the upper right hand corner of your screen while you are in your calendar.

You’ll see a drop down box in the middle of the General tab in your calendar settings that gives you five default options: 15,30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes.

Another useful setting to note is the existence of “Speedy meetings” which is on option that is right underneath the default calendar time settings. This can make meetings more efficient and you can better prepare because time is blocked out in sections whereby you’ll have some time between each calendar event.

Notice what happens to the 60 minutes default calendar time setting when “Speedy meetings” is turned on.

Essentially this gives you spare minutes for any calendar event that is longer than a fifteen minute block. It will allow you to be on time and ready to go for whatever calendar event you may have on your plate for the day.

What is your default meeting length? Have you ever tried to use “Speedy meetings”?
